A trip down memory lane! I used to frequent this deli while as a college student working nearby in the mid 1970s. Their delicious sandwiches & salad offerings made for a nice meal. It was like a part of Little Italy from North Beach in the Marina district. Having moved out of the area since & onto a return visit 5/25…the shop looked pretty much the same except their menu have expanded at least two fold…huge selection of meats, cheeses, breads, & extras…same friendly efficient service, everything freshly sliced…can’t return soon enough! Highly recommended!

After walking along the San Francisco Bay Trail to the Palace of Fine Arts, we ordered lunch online through ChowNow. The nice thing about using that site is 100% went to the restaurant not a % commission going to the food web site. The site said it would take 30 minutes but by the time we got there after 15 minutes it was ready for pickup. They had 2 benches out front but otherwise this would be a place where you would take out food to eat elsewhere in some nearby pretty green spaces. My wife and mother-in-law ordered the Shrimp Sandwich. It was a shrimp salad with avocado, tomatoes and mayo on sliced sourdough. They both loved their sandwiches! My mother-in/law could only eat half her sandwich as it was so filling. Our son had the #1 Italian Combo with salami, ham, mortadella, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato and mild Italian peppers on a maybe a ciabatta loaf. He made a mess of it and devoured it quickly! I had the Muffaletta with Genoa salami, mortadella, coppa, provolone cheese and muffaletta spread on a salted focaccia bun. Delicious but very salty which I loved! We walked over to the Marina Green area for a picnic. We grabbed a seat on a bench by the water with great water views and of Alcatraz. A great spot for lunch and some amazing sandwiches!

Lucca Delicatessen in San Francisco is more than just a deli….it’s a warm slice of Italy nestled in the city and a place where memories are made. Walking in, you're welcomed by a lively, authentic Italian vibe and shelves filled with imported goods, from cheeses and pastas to raviolis and premade salads. And then, of course, there are the sandwiches…the finest you’ll find in San Francisco. For me, a turkey sandwich on Acme sourdough with everything and pepper jack cheese has always been my go-to. The marinated sweet bell peppers bring a burst of flavor, and the tangy, crispy Acme sourdough ties it all together, making it feel uniquely San Francisco. Lucca holds a special place in my heart. It takes me back to weekends with my dad, heading into the city to tend to our family’s building. My reward for the day’s work was always a Lucca sandwich and cherished moments with Pops. That blend of taste and tradition has turned this spot into more than just a deli…it’s a timeless connection to my past and a testament to the way food can bring us together. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian deli that offers incredible food and an unforgettable experience, Luca Delicatessen is where it’s at!

Grab a number at the counter. Really great sandwiches. Id absolutely come here again. I got the veggie sando and added turkey. My friend got the muffaletta and we both deeply enjoyed our choices. Made with love. Their deli items also looked delicious. They have a variety of cookies and jarred prepared things like olives. Variety of drinks as well. Very friendly, helpful, quick staff.

Gem of a spot. I highly recommend coming during the week. Service was much smoother. Staff takes the time to make your sandwich from scratch. I’d go for the Calabrian next time. A little pricey but worth the splurge.
